SSI-Romania-2008
On Wednesday 25 June 2008 the publication of the SSI-Romania-2008 has been launched in Bucharest at NIS, during a seminar organized by NEPA, NIS and the project team.

The seminar aimed at presenting the National Environmental Action Plan, developed by NEPA and the launch of the Sustainable Society Index-Romania-2008.

The seminar has been opened by the following speakers: Mr. Octavian Popescu, director of the Sustainable Development Unit from MESD, Mrs. Dorina Cristoveanu, director of NEPA, Mr.Vergil Voineagu, president of NIS and Mr. Lothar Guendling, resident twinning advisor, NEPA.

Mr. Geurt van de Kerk of the Sustainable Society Foundation handed the first copy of the publication to Mr. Octavian Popescu, MESD.

His excellently Mr. Jaap Werner, The Ambassador of the Netherlands in Romania, said: "We hope that once this instrument has been developed Romania will be able to better evaluate the pressure its society puts on the environment. And we hope that, accordingly, it will find the necessary response in the form of political and societal decisions, measures and policies."

During the seminar several guest speakers gave a presentation, among which Mrs. Luminita Ghita, MESD, Mr. Mihai Toti, Environmental fund, Mrs. Madalina Istrate, Ministestry of Development, Public Works and Housing, Mr. Radu Vandineanu, NCSD, Mr. Dan Paduraru, National Institute for Environmental Research.
