Course on Sustainability and Action
May, 2009, Budva, Montenegro

The representatives of Sustainable Society Foundation, the Netherlands, participated as trainers at the course on Sustainability and Action, organised by REC Hungary, in Budva Montenegro (http://www.localsustainableaction.org).

The main goal of this course was to build capacities of representatives of national governments, cities and local communities, associations of towns and municipalities, NGOs, regional and local development agencies of beneficiary countries (countries of the Visegrad Agreement: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, countries of SEE region: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo (as defined under UNSCR 1244), FYR Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia) on sustainable development and relevant policies in the domains of environment, economy and society.

The case-study of SSI-Romania-2008 and RSSI-Romania-2009 was presented to the audience.

The SSI-2008, the two-yearly update of the SSI, has been launched.

Since the first publication of the SSI in 2006 now the first update is available, the SSI-2008. It presents the level of sustainability of 151 countries and shows progress over a period of two years. The good news is that the world has made a small step towards sustainability in this period. The world average SSI-score improved by 0.1 points to 5.7, on a scale of 0 to 10. However, the bad news is that with respect to issues which may be of decisive importance for this century like renewable energy and emission of greenhouse gases, the world is still in decline.

The electronic version of the publication can be downloaded here.
